Physical Capacity and Body Composition Assessment
Evaluating anthropometric parameters, such as weight and height, alongside body composition (percentage of muscle and fat mass) allows for a precise assessment of an individual’s physical status. Specifically, body composition is determined using skinfold thickness measurement and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA).
When correctly interpreted, BIA can detect variations in tissue hydration of clinical interest by directly measuring electrical values that depend solely on tissue status. Our current protocol uses a tetrapolar (hand-foot) technique with skin electrodes, providing a rapid, non-invasive, and highly repeatable assessment.
The Procedure: The subject lies supine, away from metallic elements, with legs abducted at 45° and arms at 30° to prevent skin contact with the torso. Two pairs of electrodes are applied: one on the back of the hand and the other on the back of the ipsilateral foot.
In standard single-frequency BIA, a safe 50 kHz alternating current is applied. This method is based on the principle that biological tissues act as conductors or insulators; electrolyte-rich lean tissues are excellent conductors, while bone and fat act as insulators. Using advanced regression equations—which typically include height, weight, age, and sex—the system converts impedance measurements into intracellular/extracellular volumes and fat, lean, and cellular mass.
Nutritional Analysis
This series of evaluations focuses on analyzing and correcting dietary habits to optimize nutritional intake and supplementation according to specific sporting activities. Our nutritional analysis includes a clinical study and a nutritional balance assessment, leading to the development of a tailored dietary plan.
Training Programming
Training programs are highly individualized, based on the results of the most recent functional tests and the latest advancements in training methodology. Each plan details daily recommended workouts, defining training intensity through heart rate zones, pace (for running and swimming), or power output (for cycling).
Guidelines for Competitive Sports and Mountain Activities
We provide personalized recommendations to maximize the benefits of physical activity for health and wellness. Upon request, these guidelines can include a comprehensive exercise program, a list of recommended movements, and defined heart rate target zones for aerobic activities using a heart rate monitor.
