Research areas

Our primary fields of investigation include the physiology of muscle contraction and the neuromuscular system. We analyze metabolic and cardiorespiratory adaptations in response to exercise or prolonged disuse across diverse populations, including: The elderly, Elite and amateur athletes, Individuals with obesity, cardiovascular diseases, or diabetes.

Our Researchs

Energy Metabolism

The analysis of energy metabolism focuses on acute physiological responses and chronic adaptations induced by physical exercise. Research activities at the CSSM, conducted through in vivo metabolic analysis during exercise, follow two main strategic axes:

  • Clinical Populations: Exercise protocols for individuals with stable chronic conditions (obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, solid organ transplant recipients), aimed at improving key physiological markers and functional capacity.
  • Endurance Sports: Studies on running, cycling, and cross-country skiing, with a specific focus on performance modeling and the bioenergetic determinants of athletic success.
